With less than two weeks until the November election, Donald Trump took aim at Ohio Gov. John Kasich Thursday, complaining about his GOP primary opponent’s refusal to endorse him while arguing that Kasich has “not gotten over” losing to him.
Trump made the remarks to WHIO, a local TV station in Dayton, Ohio, when asked about Kasich’s decision not to endorse, calling his decision not to do so “very disappointing” while pointing to the pledge GOP candidates signed in September 2015. The clip was first flagged by CNN.
“Well, it’s very disappointing,” Trump said. “The governor was an opponent of mine during the primaries. And I understand, he took a, it was a very big defeat for him, he took a very big defeat and he went down hard. But he did sign a pledge and he didn’t honor the pledge. You know, that’s up to him, there were a couple of people that didn’t sign.”
“They signed the pledge but they didn’t honor it,” Trump continued. “Jeb Bush was another one. So I’m disappointed, I’m very disappointed, but I think the people of Ohio get it. We are leading in the polls and I have great respect for the people of Ohio. They understand what’s happening, but I’m very disappointed in the governor. He signed a pledge, he didn’t honor it. He took a big, he took a big defeat and he has not gotten over it.”
Kasich announced his decision not to endorse after video emerged of Trump making lewd remarks on a hot microphone in 2005, in which he talked about what men with celebrity status could do to women. He reiterated his stance as recently as Friday morning, telling sports radio host Dan Patrick that he won’t vote for Trump or former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Trump made a trio of stops in Ohio on Thursday, holding campaign rallies in Springfield, Toledo and Geneva as part of his last dash ahead of election day.
