France wants Libya strikes run by new “committee”

France is proposing that a new political steering committee outside the control of NATO and the Pentagon should be responsible for overseeing military operations over Libya, the Associated Press is reporting.

The French Foreign Minister Alain Jupe said the new committee will be a collection of foreign ministers of participating states, including Britain, France and the United States and the Arab League.

The first meeting is  expected in the coming days, in either Brussels, London or Paris, according to reports

Former Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told Fox News that “it’s ridiculous and puts American lives in danger.”

He said that President Obama’s decision to focus on Libya as a humanitarian effort is a mistake. “Who is (Obama) protecting the (Libyan people) against?”  Bolton asked.
