Tuesday’s dump of emails hacked from Colin Powell’s inbox reveal the former secretary of state disapproved of a range of figures in the media, military and politics. All quotes appear exactly as written.
-
Powell didn’t like a book that former Vice President Dick Cheney co-authored with his daughter, Liz. “They are idiots and spent force peddling a book that ain’t going nowhere,” Powell wrote in an email about the Cheneys’ 2015 book, Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.
- Powell would rather not vote for Hillary Clinton, and doesn’t think Bill Clinton spends his time well. “I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect,” Powell wrote in an email to Democratic financier Jeffrey Leeds. “A 70-year person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational, with a husband still dicking bimbos at home.”
-
Powell doesn’t approve of Rosie O’Donnell or her television program. “I find Rosie an objectionable person. She can’t just talk about her kids. ABC sounds lost. How does that other all women daily talk show do on the other channel?”
-
Powell doesn’t care for retired four-star Gen. Michael Flynn. “Flynn got fired as head of DIA. His replacement is a black Marine 3-star. I asked why Flynn got fired. Abusive with staff, didn’t listen, worked against policy, bad management, etc. He has been and was right-wing nutty every since. I watched about five minutes on line of his talked and switched off,” Powell said in a July email to his son.

Powell is sick and tired of Hillary Clinton trying to pin her email scandal on him. “She didn’t need any advice of ok from me; she was already doing it. I gave her written guidance on why and how I had been doing it. I warned her staff three times over the past two years not to try to connect it to me. I am not sure HRC even knew or understood what was going on in the basement.”

Powell disapproved of congressional Republicans hassling Hillary Clinton over the death of an ambassador in Libya, whom he believed died as a result of his own idealism. “Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt. Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who thoughts Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place,” Powell wrote in an email to another former secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice.
“Blame also rests on his leaders and supports back here,” Powell wrote, referencing both Clinton and the American intelligence community, among others. “Completely agree,” Rice replied. “Let me know when you’re in town and we’ll have that glass of wine (or two).”
