Colorblind firefighter brought to tears after seeing American flag in color for first time

Most Americans are familiar with the red, white, and blue star-spangled banner, but it was only recently that Georgia firefighter Spencer Caradine discovered that he had not yet seen the American flag in all its color.

Caradine’s coworker, Jordan Gardner, secretly gave him a colorblind test after noticing that Caradine was not able to see a clearly visible red barn. The test revealed that Caradine was unable to see the colors green or red.

Gardner planned to order Caradine special glasses to allow him to see in color and notified his other colleagues in the Fire Department. Others joined in to surprise Caradine with the glasses on July 3, the day before Independence Day.

The firefighters displayed a large, bright American flag as one of the first objects for him to see in full color. Caradine was brought to tears by his emotion, embraced his colleagues, and gave them a sincere “thank you.”

“It blew my mind … It was so much different from what I’ve ever seen. It was more beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” Caradine said.
