Sanders outspends Clinton on early state airwaves

As he tries to gain ground in Iowa and New Hampshire, Bernie Sanders outspent Hillary Clinton on the airwaves during the past week, spending $900,000 in the early nominating states, to the Democratic front-runner’s $750,000.

Throughout the primary campaign, Clinton has outspent Sanders $13.8 million to $9.6 million, as she leads the democratic socialist candidate by a large margin in national polls. But with less than a month left to go until the Iowa caucus, Sanders has upped his campaigning efforts both on the air and on the ground, holding more town halls and large scale organizing events, such as rallies.

The $900,000 worth of ads bought this week were aired in Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina, according to a report from NBC news.

During that same time period Jeb Bush spent $4.8 million in Iowa, New Hampshire South Carolina and on national cable, Marco Rubio spent $3.8 million in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina and on national cable and Donald Trump hopped on the airwaves, spending $1.2 million in Iowa and New Hampshire.

In contrast, Ted Cruz, who has become the favorite to win the caucus, has spent only $463,000 in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina during that same period and Ben Carson spent $340,000 in Iowa alone.
