Hurricane Gustav has already forced the cancellation of most party business on the first day of the Republican National Convention. Now it’s beginning to affect the convention’s early-week parties.
The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States announced that its “Spirits of Minneapolis” party on Monday night shall now be known as the “Spirits of the Gulf Coast.” Attendees will be encouraged to make a donation to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund at the door.
Ditto the “Political Chicks a Go Go” party on Monday night, sponsored by Lifetime, Rock the Vote and RIGHT Now.
In other Gustav-related news, the party announced the formation of the Affected States Working Group to aid the delegations from the Gulf Coast states, and the chartering of a jetliner to transport affected delegates.
“This is not a time for politics or celebration,” said McCain campaign manager Rick Davis in a release. “It is time for us to come together as Americans and assist the residents of the Gulf States.”
