FotoWeek DC on the lookout for entries

Shutterbugs, your kind attention please: Start shooting, because you’ve got only until Sept. 29 to submit your entires to FotoWeek DC, a festival of amateur and professional photography that organizers say will take over more than 50 local galleries for the week of Nov. 15-22.

Professional and student entries will be accepted in the categories of Architecture, Commercial/Advertising/Fashion, Fine Art, Personal Project, Photojournalism and Wedding. Amateur shooters can submit work in the Architecture, Fine Art, Landscape, Portrait, Sports, and Animals Categories. And the “Spirit of Washington, D.C.” category — and its $5,000 cash prize — is open to everybody.

Besides the opportunity to have their work exhibited and judged by a panel that includes Pulitzer Prize-winner Deanne Fitzmaurice, Tipper Gore and DCist Managing Editor and Ten Miles Square founder Heather Goss, entrants have a shot at $37,000 in cash and gift certificates to photo stores. The winners will be invited to attend a gala awards ceremony at National Geographic on Nov. 22.
