A district staffer to a member of Congress was found dead Tuesday after a possible domestic fight in her Illinois home.

The office of Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., on Tuesday confirmed to the Washington Examiner that district staffer Marianne Viverito died earlier in the day.

Viverito was a congressional aide in the Oak Lawn, Illinois office and had worked under Lipinski for a decade.

“Today it is with great sadness that I must announce the untimely passing of a member of my staff, Ms. Marianne Viverito,” Lipinski said in a statement. “Marianne was a beloved and trusted member of my staff, and has been a part of my team during much of my tenure in Congress. She has helped countless of my constituents solve challenges they’ve faced with the federal government with a smile, good nature, and humor. As with me and my staff, I know that these constituents will miss her greatly.”

Oak Lawn police received a call from an out-of-state law enforcement agency around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday morning asking them to check on the 55-year-old. Officers who responded to the house found blood and Viverito dead in the basement of the house. Police believe she may have sustained those fatal injuries as the result of a domestic altercation, according to one local report.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger at this time,” a statement from police said.

Lipinski’s office is not sharing additional information until police conclude their investigation. Lipinski has represented the Cook County-area district since 2005. His father, Bill Lipinski, represented the district for 22 years before he was sworn into office.
