A U.S. F-16 fighter jet crashed on Tuesday in Afghanistan, but the pilot safely ejected and has been recovered by coalition personnel.
Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said the F-16 crashed during takeoff around 8:30 p.m. local time.

He said the pilot is being evaluated by medical personnel and that coalition forces are securing the crash site. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
