ABC’s ‘Fat March’ rolls into Baltimore

A new primetime ABC reality show is shooting in Baltimore?s Federal Hill this week.

“Fat March” tracks the journey of 12 obese people who walk over 550 miles from Boston to Washington, D.C. A cash prize at the end of the march is worth $1.2 million – but only if they make it together.

“All you need to do to lose weight is start walking,” said Julie Laughlin, executive producer of the show.

The group travels through nine states in 10 weeks, taking instruction from two trainers who also serve as the show?s hosts. They eat five meals each day based on a diet of 30 percent fat, protein, and carbohydrates.

“We are trying to teach America how to chose foods wisely and be aware of portion control,” Laughlin said.

The show will air in early August with six one-hour episodes. Each episode includes a weigh-in and a vote-off. Participants lagging behind the group must either be sent home, or have their mileage made-up by their teammates.

“The weight loss has been more than anticipated,” Laughlin said. “It?s shocking.”

“Fat March” is produced by Ricochet, a British independent television company specializing in factual and entertainment programs for broadcast by major networks in both the United Kingdom and U.S.
