Ban ‘feminist’

Time Magazine released its annual “word banishment poll” asking people to vote for which word needs to be banned — and the word “feminist” is so far winning by a mile.

Taking in 45 percent of respondents, feminist has triple the votes of current runner up, “bae.”

And in case you’re wondering, just 3 percent of respondents currently want to ban the word “bossy.”

Time provides definitions for the words on the list, and writes of feminist:

“You have nothing against feminism itself, but when did it become a thing that every celebrity had to state their position on whether this word applies to them, like some politician declaring a party? Let’s stick to the issues and quit throwing this label around like ticker tape at a Susan B. Anthony parade.”

It’s impossible to tell from the poll whether people are choosing to ban the word feminist because they disagree with the negative stereotype of feminists or for the reasons Time provided.

And the results could always change, but for now, feminist has a comfortable lead.
