President Trump on Friday accused Bob Woodward of making up his quotes in his new book, and said he never would have been elected if he spoke that way.
“The Woodward book is a scam. I don’t talk the way I am quoted. If I did I would not have been elected President,” Trump tweeted Friday morning. “These quotes were made up. The author uses every trick in the book to demean and belittle. I wish the people could see the real facts – and our country is doing GREAT!”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday that Trump wouldn’t be able to have the success he has had in office if the book’s accounts were true.
“The president laid out an agenda very clearly during the campaign, and since day one of taking office he’s delivering on that agenda every single day. You can’t have the type of success that this president has had if what that book says is true,” Sanders told ABC News.
Woodward’s book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” is set to be released Tuesday and according to the author, it features stories, quotes, and testimonies stemming from hundreds of hours of audio recorded interviews and observations.
Several excerpts from the book have been shared ahead of its release, many of which have been discredited by the direct sources being quoted.
White House chief of staff John Kelly said Tuesday that he never called the president an “idiot,” a claim made in the book.
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis also denied ever saying Trump had the mannerism and understanding of a middle schooler, and called the book a work of “fiction.”
Trump came out on Twitter against Woodward’s claim that he called Attorney General Jeff Sessions a “dumb southerner” and “mentally retarded,” adding that he thinks being a southerner is great.
