Abraham Lincoln once famously said, “If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?”
After the stunt the Lincoln Project pulled last week, all in the country should be asking which is the real face of this hate-filled political organization. Its leaders would be wise to study the virtues of their namesake because their actions certainly don’t reflect any of them. A better name for them would be the Benedict Arnold Project.
These are supposed to be highly educated people who went to some of our country’s best universities. I bet that when they graduated, they didn’t imagine they’d be sneakily sending people to disguise themselves as the white nationalists whose rally resulted in a person losing her life and to infiltrate a campaign event of the political opposition. What did these idiots do for Halloween, dress up as the Weather Underground?
The Lincoln Project’s Reichstag Fire stunt last week in Virginia comes after one of its founding leaders was exposed as a sexual predator. These “dedicated Americans protecting democracy” are vindictive losers attempting to maintain relevance in a political world that passed them by even before former President Donald Trump left office.
Lincoln is often recognized for his sound moral character and virtuous judgment. He is often referred to as “Honest Abe.” The Lincoln Project is anything but.
The group’s sincerity as a collection of former Republicans rejecting Trump was dubious from the start. Hatred for specific Republicans or policies is perfectly understandable, but it is something altogether different to reject all the principles one claims to have once held dear. People do that in response to financial incentives. And the way the Lincoln Project leaders do it, they evince every ugly, sinister trait they claim to dislike about Trump, who inspired them to form their little group.
The Lincoln Project describes its members as “dedicated Americans protecting democracy.” Their actions are those of attention-seeking traitors who raise millions from gullible liberals and then pull inexpensive stunts so they can pay themselves as much of the money as possible. In 2020, after the pedophile scandal involving co-founder John Weaver, the group came under fire again involving its finances. The New York Times reported the group sneakily moved $27 million in donations, a sum that represented about a third of its total fundraising efforts, to the consulting firm of one of the founders. There were also numerous stories of infighting over finances.
Just as Benedict Arnold whined about being passed over for promotion, the Lincoln Project founders whined about Trump’s demeanor. They whined even more when Trump won. Just like Benedict Arnold was investigated for corruption and malfeasance, so, too, were the members of the Lincoln Project. And just like Benedict Arnold was enamored with riches and wealth, so, too, were the founders of the Lincoln Project.
