New York Post has gained 290,000 followers since Twitter lockout

The New York Post has gained 290,000 Twitter followers since it was locked out from the platform.

That number, reported by Social Blade, which tracks the publication’s Twitter metrics, represents a 16% increase in followers for the publication.

On Oct. 14, the New York Post was locked out of its account after posting its reporting on Hunter Biden, the son of the former vice president. That reporting included information allegedly obtained from the 50-year-old’s laptop.

At first, Twitter users were blocked from sharing the reporting. Even after users regained the ability to share it, the New York Post was still locked out of its account.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said during a Senate hearing on Wednesday that in order for the account to be unlocked, the publication would need to delete the original tweets, even if they chose to tweet out the same exact material immediately afterward.

The New York Post refused to do so and were eventually allowed to regain full access to their account anyway.

“Our policies are living documents,” wrote Twitter. “We’re willing to update and adjust them when we encounter new scenarios or receive important feedback from the public. … We will no longer restrict [the New York Post’s] account under the terms of the previous policy and they can now Tweet again.”
