Scott Walker sees liberal state Supreme Court victory as sign GOP is ‘at risk of a Blue Wave’

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker isn’t afraid to say he could be vulnerable in November.

After Rebecca Dallet became the first liberal judge to win an open seat on the state’s Supreme Court since 1995 on Tuesday, Walker offered his immediate reaction on Twitter, interpreting her victory as an indication that Republicans, himself included, could be in trouble this cycle.

“Tonight’s results show we are at risk of a #BlueWave in WI. The Far Left is driven by anger & hatred — we must counter it with optimism & organization. Let’s share our positive story with voters & win in November,” the governor tweeted. Up for reelection in November, Walker added, “Big government special interests flooded Wisconsin with distorted facts & misinformation. Next, they’ll target me and work to undo our bold reforms. We need to keep moving #WIForward & make sure a #BlueWave of outside special interest money doesn’t take us backward.”

He also tweeted a link to his campaign committee’s volunteer sign-up website.

After Democrats flipped a reliably red state Senate district blue in January, Walker reacted similarly, tweeting after returns came in to call the results a “wake up call.”

“Can’t presume that voters know we are getting positive things done in Wisconsin. Help us share the good news,” the governor implored supporters.

Two months later, Walker now finds himself in a similar spot, hoping to stop a Blue Wave from sweeping Republicans out of office in Wisconsin by openly acknowledging the magnitude of the party’s early losses. Sixteen candidates have registered so far in the Democratic gubernatorial primary contest, set to be decided this August. Walker was first elected governor in 2010, survived a recall battle in 2012, and was then re-elected in 2014.
