The White House sent the president’s Supreme Court nomination to the Senate on Tuesday.
News of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination became official on Saturday, and Tuesday’s action formalized the process.
On Saturday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham announced that the hearing to consider the nomination will begin on Oct. 12. Questioning of the judge will start the following day.
Because of the timing of the hearing, it is possible that Barrett could be confirmed to the court shortly before the election.
