Bosdosh is youngest winner in Maryland Amateur history

Clarksburg’s Sean Bosdosh is son of acclaimed teaching pro Steve Bosdosh. Sunday at Congressional, Bosdosh showed he takes instruction well as he beat Keith Unikel in 38 holes to become the youngest winner in the 89-year history of the Maryland Amateur.

In a controversial final, Bosdosh, 18, made a par from a fairway bunker on the second hole at Congressional Gold while Unikel, 31, made a bogey from the same bunker.

It completed an exhausting tournament for both players who emerged after playing 36 holes of match play on Friday and Saturday.

Controversy ensued at the 33rd hole, where Unikel, frustrated over a 3-putt bogey, swiped his ball off the green, before Bosdosh conceded. When Bosdosh, who also had a bogey, complained to an official, he was awarded the hole to go 2 up with three to play.

When Bosdosh hit his tee shot on the ensuing hole, Unikel yelled, “Get in the bunker.” But Unikel recovered to win the next two holes and force a playoff.
