First lady Michelle Obama challenged Ellen DeGeneres to a dance-off of sorts when she visited “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday afternoon to film Monday’s episode.
Obama explained to the audience that she “challenged” DeGeneres to learn a dance created as part of the first lady’s championed “Let’s Move” campaign to get America healthier and more active.
A preview clip released by the program shows Obama and DeGeneres breaking it down to the smash hit “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.
The dance — which Obama admitted involves a lot of “hip thrusting” — is part of the first lady’s #GimmeFive social media campaign, which asks individuals to name five examples of how they are living a healthy lifestyle. Unsurpisingly, Obama has recruited multiple celebrities — like Beyonce, Ryan Seacrest and Dwyane Wade — to “give her five.”
Obama told DeGeneres that she and her guests will perform the dance at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 6, the theme for which is the #GimmeFive campaign.
The Obamas were certainly making the rounds on television Thursday. Later that night, President Obama stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to read mean tweets, disclose his social media habits, plug the “Student Aid Bill of Rights,” and discuss the recent shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.
