According to ESPN.com, John McEnroe’s rock music project, the Johnny Smyth Band, “couldn’t surpass ‘gimmick’ status” even after two years of touring in the ’90s, “and the band eventually folded in 1997.”

Well, apparently what’s old is new again, because at noon Tuesday, the Mac is back. He’ll appear with the band (named for his wife, singer Patty Smyth) at Kastles Stadium. Later that night, he’ll trade his guitar for a racket as the Kastles take on his New York Sportimes.
