Congressional freshmen rolling in dough

The newest members of the 112th Congress may be novices on the Hill, but they aren’t hurting for cash, according to reports from the Center for Responsive Politics.

The latest numbers are showing that a whopping two-thirds of the Senate freshmen are millionaires, and about 40 percent of the 96 new House members are millionaires. Analysis of financial disclosures from the freshman class show that Rep. Richard Berg, R-N.D., is the richest of the bunch, with assets totaling more than $20 million.

After the 2010 midterms, when asked about the wealth he’s built with his years of experience in the private sector, Berg said, “I earned it.”
