Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have been speaking in recent days, and appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, Romney confirmed to host Jake Tapper that he would love to clone Paul Ryan, and that he would be a great speaker or “potential president.”

“He is a man of such talent, and such integrity, and such character, that he’s a real resource for the country,” Romney said. “Whether it’s now for the speakership, or whether, instead, we see him hold on and ultimately potentially become a candidate for president, I don’t know, that’s his decision. I’m just glad to know him, and to know that we have him in our quiver.”
“Sounds like you’re coming out in favor of cloning Paul Ryan,” Tapper said.
“I wish we could,” Romney said. “This is a guy who’s laid out what he believes, he’s a policy wonk, he’s an advocate of the policies of Jack Kemp.”
Pressed by Tapper to respond to Ryan’s critics who think he is perhaps actually too liberal, Romney responded that the differences between Ryan and members of the House Freedom Caucus and others are more a matter of tactics than policy.
“The challenge in our party is not that people have differing views on issues, as much as people have differing views on how to get those issues implemented,” Romney said. “There are some in our party who think the best approach is throwing bombs.”
“The problem with bomb-throwing so far is that most of the bombs have landed on our own team,” he said.
