Top Five: NCAA games so far

What have been the most exciting games of this NCAA tournament? The competition is so good that there’s no room on this list for Ohio-Michigan, Marquette-Murray State or four games decided on the final possession. 5. VCU 62, Wichita State 59 » The Rams had the most exciting game of championship week, then two doozies in the NCAA. Their win over Wichita State wasn’t decided until the Shockers missed a 3 on their final possession.

4. Wisconsin 60, Vanderbilt 57 » Desperation made this one intriguing. Wisconsin had been knocked out by mid-majors in its last five NCAA trips. In its last three trips, Vanderbilt had lost to mid-majors in the first round.

3. Indiana 63, VCU 61 » Even with its pedigree and No. 4 seed, Indiana seemed like an underdog against the swarming, shock-and-awe defense of No. 12 VCU. But after trailing most of the way, the Hoosiers scored the game’s final seven points and withstood an off-target 3 at the buzzer.

2. Lehigh 75, Duke 70 » The recipe to beat Duke was supposed to be length, athleticism and physicality. Lehigh had none of these and still took down America’s team. This game lacked a dramatic ending but ranks high for the sheer magnitude of the 15-2 upset and the priceless looks on the faces of crestfallen Duke fans.

1. Norfolk State 86, Missouri 84 » Considering the pedigree of the teams, this qualifies as one of the most shocking upsets in NCAA history. No. 15 Norfolk State had never even played in an NCAA game but brought down a team that many believed should have earned a No. 1 seed.
