Walter Caldwell, of Pasadena, is expected to receive the George H. Phelps Jr. Distinguished Public Service Award from the North County Political Forum.

Caldwell has served as president of the Freetown Improvement Association for six years and was instrumental in the renovation of the Wiley H. Bates High School for community use.

He will receive the award at the 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast at Anne Arundel Community College’s Arnold campus. The event, which begins at 8 a.m. Jan. 19, honors local residents and civic leaders who emulate the spirit of King and salutes winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest sponsored by the Annapolis chapter of The Links Inc.
