One of the Obama reelection team’s favorite tactics has been to play the “woman” card against Romney in which highly emotional ads about the GOP’s position on women’s’ rights contain liberal women making such claims as, “it is a scary time to be a woman – Mitt Romney is just so out of touch.” In one ad titled “Republican Women for Obama,” a woman says, “I’m very concerned about Mitt Romney’s policies concerning women’s rights,” and another woman chimes in saying “he wants to reverse Roe v. Wade.”
But the Romney campaign is answering back, and just took a page from team Obama with a new ad titled “Dear Daughter.” In it, team Romney exposes the difficult economic circumstances women face under President Obama by stating, “More women are unemployed under President Obama – more than 5.5 million women can’t find work.”
“Dear Daughter, welcome to America.” the ad begins with a voiceover of a soft-lens video in which a mother holds her infant daughter. “Your share of Obama’s debt is over $50,000 and it grows every day. Obama’s policies are making it harder on women. The poverty rate for women? The highest in 17 years… that’s what Obama’s policies have done for women,” the ad concludes.
As a well-informed mother-to-be, I am grateful to be employed in an economy where 23 million are looking for work. But I am not taking my employment for granted and I am painfully aware of the environment Obama has created and will continue to create for my own unborn daughter. With college tuition rising nearly 15 percent in the last two years under Obama’s leadership and a very slow economic “recovery” in which unemployment remains above eight percent, my husband and I have seriously considered beginning a college tuition fund, and not a traditional baby registry on her behalf.
Who needs pacifiers and a stroller when cash would be a much better investment to pay down the nearly $50,000 in debt she’ll inherit?
Unless there can be a steady period of solid economic growth and policies enacted that help make higher education more affordable, I’m not sure our daughter will look back fondly on the 2nd term of an Obama administration in which he spearheaded a fiscal nose-dive while she was still learning to walk.
