Maryland automobile dealers want to see more car manufacturers adopt employee pricing plans to spark automobile sales, a Maryland dealer group said.

On Wednesday, the Chrysler group of DaimlerChrysler extended its Employee Pricing Plus discount program through Aug. 31. Originally, the program was due to expire Monday of this week.

All buyers are eligible for the employee pricing, giving customers the same price on almost any 2006 vehicle that Chrysler employees pay.

Peter Kitzmiller, president of the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association, said the employee pricing plans helped boost sales in July 2005 to a near record.

“Dealers like the discounts because it helps sales,” Kitzmiller said.

Under Chrysler?s plan, consumers can opt for 0 percent financing for 36 months or rebates that vary depending on the model, according to the Chrysler group announcement.

Other domestic manufacturers have not followed Chrysler?s lead yet. Kitzmiller said July sales fell partly because employee pricing wasn?t available on many models.
