Restaurant owner sentenced

The owner of a Northwest Washington restaurant pleaded guilty on three counts of failing to pay $78,000 in taxes, according to the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office.

Rui Ying Yu, owner of the New Big Wong Restaurant, 610 H St. NW, received a suspended sentence of 180 days in jail.

Authorities said that in 2004, Yu sold her business to her sister and mother and changed the corporation’s name in an effort to avoid paying taxes.
