Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton declined to say Wednesday whether he would accept an offer to become Donald Trump’s secretary of Defense, and said he hasn’t spoken with Trump about a possible Cabinet post.
“The President-elect and I spoke last week but only to send my congratulations,” Cotton said on Fox News.
“Donald Trump is going to make all these decisions on his own schedule in due time,” Cotton added. “Meanwhile, I’m working in the Senate for the people of Arkansas.”
Cotton was pressed on whether he would be willing to serve, but declined to answer.
“Donald Trump is going to make all those decisions on his own schedule and I think it’s best we all just wait for those decisions,” Cotton said. “In the meantime, we need to prepare the ground to hit the ground running in January.”
