The Baltimore city?s state?s attorney is reviewing a video of a police officer, who is caught on tape throwing a punch at the face of a handcuffed 53-year-old man, and then tossing him on a concrete sidewalk.
Margaret Burns, spokesman for the City State?s Attorney?s Office, said the video that shows a Baltimore City police officer throwing Glenn Curry to the ground in the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on Aug. 26 is in the hands of A. Thomas Krehealy Jr., the head of the police misconduct division in the city?s prosecutor?s office.
“Whenever we have allegations brought to our attention, we refer them to that division,” Burns said.
Krehealy will determine if criminal charges against the officer are warranted.
Curry, a city bar manager, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, resisting arrest and trespassing in front of his residence. Curry said he did nothing wrong and wants the officer charged with assault.
“It?s clear when you look at the video that officer did not punch him or use excessive force,” police spokesman Matt Jablow said.
“It was a good arrest of an officer removing a violent criminal from the street,” Jablow said.
Curry?s attorney, Granville Templeton III, disagreed.
“If Baltimore city police continue to take that position, I understand why the community mistrusts the police,” he said.
Charging documents state Curry resisted arrest prior to being handcuffed, but once he was placed in cuffs there was not an incident.
The video obtained by The Examiner shows Curry was in handcuffs when the officer threw the punch at his face, and tossed Curry to the ground.
