St. Ignatius Church will host a Taize Prayer Service on Monday.
Taize, a spiritual attitude aimed at worldwide religious unity, began in France in 1940.
To prepare for Easter Sunday, participants meditate and chant to music while contemplating the events of Holy Week when Jesus Christ was crucified and died.
“The music assists people in prayerful meditation,” Reverend Brendan Hurley said. “It’s the kind of music that begins quietly, builds intensity and then comes back for a quiet conclusion.”
Students from Catholic University School of Music are the principle musicians but the congregation is invited to take part. Dr. Michael Smith, chair of Music Education at Catholic will lead the choir and congregation.
The service is at St. Ignatius Church’s Chapel of Grace at 7:30 p.m., 740 N. Calvert Street in Baltimore. Call 410-727-2539.
