Donald Trump Jr. posited the theory that the controversial House Intelligence Committee memo, which reportedly details surveillance abuses by the Department of Justice and FBI, led to FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s resignation earlier this week.
While most reports have said McCabe stepped down, a few have cited sources saying he was “removed” — a point that Trump Jr. harped on in a tweet Thursday.
“It was good enough to fire McCabe, no one argues its factually inaccurate, but now days later they want to protect the names of those involved in a scandal that was big enough to fire a senior official a month before retirement? They don’t deserve a pass on that,” Trump Jr. said in response to a tweet calling for transparency surrounding the memo.

President Trump, Trump Jr.’s father, is expected to approve the release of the memo Friday, and a White House official indicated that the president is likely to do so without any redactions. The memo was put together by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and his staff, and its impending release to the public has been opposed by both Democrats and the FBI.
McCabe’s exit came on Monday, raising questions about the FBI and the federal investigation into the possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Russian election meddling.
The FBI’s assistant deputy director, David Bowdich, was named acting deputy director.
