Ex-cop guilty in workers? comp scheme

Former Baltimore City police officer Andre Alan Stover, 40, will serve six months of home detention for stealing more than $150,000 in fraudulent workers? compensation checks, the Office of the Maryland Attorney General announced Thursday.

Stover pleaded guilty to felony theft. Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge John Grason Turnbull suspended all but six months of a five-year home-detention sentence and ordered that Stover pay restitution.

Stover admitted to meeting the claims adjuster assigned to his workers? compensation case on a street corner, accepting fraudulent checks, cashing them at a nearby check-cashing establishment and returning to split the proceeds, according to Attorney General Doug Gansler?s office.
