Both the Washington Post and the New York Times had articles this weekend reporting on yet another record month for apprehensions on the southern border, with the latter noting “the surge is happening at the height of the hottest summer months, when the flow of people seeking entry into the United States usually abates.”
The Washington Post similarly notes that “the huge increase in illegal border crossings that President Biden described as ‘seasonal’ is growing larger despite the summer heat.”
Even Biden’s most loyal scribes are beginning to note the emperor has no clothes on this issue.
Still, the Washington Post allows White House allies to describe Biden’s policies as a “muddled immigration strategy” when all evidence indicates the direction of Biden’s policies couldn’t be clearer: open borders.
Take this sentence from the Washington Post piece that notes: “Administration officials also say they will reduce illegal migration by making it easier for temporary workers and immigrants’ relatives to come to the United States legally.”
Ever notice how all of Biden’s “solutions” for illegal immigration (or what the White House calls “irregular migration”) are just policies that make it easier for migrants to enter our country faster?
Faced with record numbers of migrants coming to our border to claim asylum this year, migrants that Biden specifically invited to come, Biden did not try to deter more from coming. Instead, he rushed resources to the border to process them into the country faster. The problem, as the Biden administration saw it, was not that too many migrants were flooding our southern border with specious asylum claims; no, the problem was that they were not being processed into the country fast enough!
And what exactly happens to all these hundreds of thousands of migrants who are arrested at the border and then claim asylum? The New York Times reports:
But all of this monitoring is 100% enforcement theater. Biden is never going to deport any of them. It is administration policy not to. Biden has ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “to focus on arresting and deporting immigrants assessed to pose a risk to national security; migrants recently apprehended along U.S. borders; and those convicted of certain crimes who have been released from federal, state or local jails.”
Since it will take years for these asylum cases to be settled, and the migrants making these claims will almost all be living far away from the border, unless they commit a major crime, Biden has already promised they can stay forever.
Migrants in Central America know this. And word is spreading around the world. Illegal immigrant apprehensions on the southern border from countries other than Central America or Mexico have skyrocketed from 7,890 in December to 47,224 this June.
“Should someone who is here without documents, and that is his only offense, should that person be deported?” Jose Diaz-Balart asked Biden during the second Democratic presidential primary debate.
“That person should not be the focus of deportation,” Biden replied. “We should fundamentally change the way we deal with things.”
Biden has fundamentally changed how we deal with things. And the crisis at our southern border is a direct result of his open borders policies.
