Anne Boone-Simanski: Morton?s recipe for a tasty evening

Klaus Fritsch, who co-founded Morton?s Steakhouse in 1978 with Arnie Morton, is an outstanding chef, and shares many of the steakhouse?s secrets in his new book, “Morton?s Steak Bible.”

Steak aficionados from all around town descended upon Morton?s Baltimore location at 300 S. Charles St. last Thursday for a private book-signing reception and a sneak peek-and-taste into the grilling world. Fritsch has been described as a restaurant visionary, and his know-how at cooking a great steak is second to none. However, illness kept Fritsch from attending this get-together.

Public relations guru David Nevins stepped in to welcome the guests and show a taped greeting from Fritsch. Among the guests were Brown Advisory?s Greg Barnhill, Harbor Hospital orthopedic surgeon Dr. John Carbone, Maryland?s Department of General Services Director Dave Humphrey, Cystic Fibrosis Executive Director Josie Schaeffer and Fuel Fund of Maryland?s Lil Hughes Knipp. Also spotted were Stewart Gold, Stuart Amos and Dick Hugg. The state of Maryland was well represented by Chief Marketing Officer Dennis Castleman.

As we nibbled on samples from “Morton?s Steak Bible,” many guests were surprised that some of the delights included seafood and poultry. Dino Lolli, of the National Distributing Co., treated those in attendance to many of his company?s fine wines. In addition to wine, Lolli?s other passion is the Ravens. Wine and football? I have a new best friend.

If you want “Morton?s Steak Bible” for your kitchen, call the restaurant?s Brian Fiori or Judi DiGioia at 410-547-8255. A portion of the evening?s proceeds benefited the Restaurant Association?s Educational Foundation Scholarship Program.

OH PLEEZ! SECOND EDITION

Apparently, Baltimore County has banned recreation councils from posting their very helpful team sign-up reminders on telephone polls. Oh Pleez!

“Just when ya think Dan Snyder couldn?t stoop any lower, well, where?s the shovel?” That was Fox 45 sportscaster Bruce Cunningham?s reaction to Redskins owner Dan Snyder charging $25 a car to park at the Ravens-Redskins scrimmage last Saturday at FedEx Field. Oh Pleez!

It must have been the heat that caused me to have a big oops in last Thursday?s column. Janet Owens, the Anne Arundel County executive, is in the race for state comptroller. I wrote city ? Oh Pleez, Anne!
