The state of Maryland, which is housing the most unaccompanied minors of any state, announced new resources Wednesday to help families and communities who are taking in the children who have crossed the border illegally and gotten caught.
The resources include a new website and call center aimed at providing Maryland residents with quick access to the tools they need to help the children who are staying with them.
Maryland current houses 2,800 unaccompanied minors, giving it the highest per-capita rate of any state in the country. Earlier this month, Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley asked local attorneys to represent these children in court on a pro bono basis.
