After hosting nearly five hours of town hall time for the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to discuss gay and transgender issues, I’m wondering if CNN has modified its logo to feature oversized rubber shoes and a red nose that honks.
The channel embarrassed itself Thursday night after it forced one of its hosts, Chris Cuomo, to apologize for a very appropriate joke during the event, and after another one of its hosts, Don Lemon, allowed a raving lunatic to seize the microphone and scream about the murders of black trans women.
Sen. Kamala Harris began her turn on stage confidently declaring that her pronouns are in fact “she, her, and hers.” Cuomo, just as taken aback as any normal person would be, replied, “Mine too.”
You can imagine the public affairs arm of CNN nearly collapsing in a faint at Cuomo’s social justice transgression. Less than an hour later, Cuomo put out a tweet saying that he was sorry because as “an ally of the LGBTQ community” and as someone “committed to helping us achieve equality,” he shouldn’t have made the joke.
Cuomo didn’t make the pronouns thing a joke. It was already a dumb publicity stunt to begin with. Who didn’t know that Harris, a heterosexual woman married to a man, didn’t prefer to be called “she” and “her”? She only said so as a nod to the social justice mob that now rules her party. Cuomo made an existential joke and his bosses at CNN had a meltdown. They should make him open his next program by throwing a pie in his own face.
Later, when former Rep. Beto O’Rourke was on stage, a black trans woman grabbed the microphone from a woman in the audience and went on a tear about CNN having “erased black trans women” because none had yet been called on to speak. Oh, and did you know that black trans women are dying?
The lunatic in the audience will never let you forget it after she went on and on, with the encouragement of Don Lemon, about black trans women being murdered. Just like any time liberals talk about this issue, they never give the details.
Black trans women are often killed the same way a lot of sex workers are killed: They’re hooking in crime-ridden, drug-addled neighborhoods. Is seeking a better life on their own an option or are the rest of us supposed to do it for them?
Since he wasn’t talking to a Republican, Lemon didn’t push back and ask for facts. Instead, he told the trans woman that “the reason we’re here is to validate people like you.” He then gave her back the mic to continue her wild rant. It would shock no one if Lemon were to return on air Monday wearing a flower on his jacket that shoots out water.
It’s enough that Democrats have turned their primary into a competition for most grievance-conscious but did CNN have to help out?
