Poll: Trump stays competitive despite video controversy

Donald Trump is still within striking distance of Hillary Clinton, according to a new national ABC News/Washington Post poll released early Sunday, despite a rough period for the GOP nominee in which he has endured multiple suggestive video leaks and a flurry of sexual harassment accusations.

Clinton leads Trump 47 percent to 43 percent among likely voters in a four-way race, the poll found. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson received 5 percent, and the Green Party’s Jill Stein earned 2 percent.

For the two top candidates the numbers barely changed. Since the previous poll released on Sept. 22, which was conducted before the first debate on Sept. 26, Clinton saw only an uptick of 1 percentage while Trump suffered a loss of 1 percent.

In response to the 2005 leaked video in which Trump can be heard making lewd comments about women, two-thirds of registered voters said it did not impact their preference, while the other third said it makes them less likely to support him.

Enthusiasm for Trump and views of his honesty and trustworthiness did however decline, erasing the advantage he held over Clinton in both categories in the last poll.

Clinton also commands a strong lead among women, topping Trump by 8 percent.

The survey of 1,152 adults, including 920 registered and 740 likely voters, was conducted by landline and cell phones from Oct. 10-13. The full survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, 3.5 points for registered voters and 4 for likely voters.
