Linebacker Dan Cody is counting his blessings this training camp. On the first day of camp last season, he suffered a season-ending knee injury. So far, he?s been able to take part in plenty of team action.
Cody said the Ravens are using patience with the 2005 second-round pick.
“They?ve been good about giving me some leniency, and if it?s ever getting stiff, giving me some time off,” Cody said.
He has shown enough to impress head coach Brian Billick, who counts Cody as an extra draft pick this season.
“The knee seems strong, and he?s got an intensity about him that?s fun to watch,” Billick said.
Ward Goes Too Far
Billick wants his team to be physical, but second-year safety B.J. Ward took it too far, according to the coaching staff. Ward got into trouble after hitting receiver Devard Darling andtight end Dan Wilcox, who was more defenseless on impact. When Ward hit Wilcox a second time, Wilcox took umbrage and the two shoved back and forth. Both Billick and defensive coordinator Rex Ryan verbally lit into Ward. At one point, Ward took off his helmet and shoulder pads after being scolded by Billick.
Star of the Day
Darling is battling for a position on the team in his third year. During one drill, he made a bobbling, one-handed catch over defensive back Duvol Thompson. Wednesday was his day to shine, with Mark Clayton still nursing a hamstring injury and Clarence Moore remaining on the physically unable to perform list.
Injury Update
Demetrius Williams was hampered with a hamstring injury. Bobby Blizzard still is recovering from a back injury, while defensive back Samari Rolle had some knee pain. Rookie running back Cory Ross returned to action.
