High winds blowing through region

It’s not snow or sleet or freezing rain, but D.C. officials are warning about the weather this afternoon.

This time we’re expected to get lots of wind. Mary Poppins wind. Blow your umbrella inside out wind. Bowl you over wind.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the region until 8 p.m., with gust expected to reach 45 to 50 mph.

Keep in mind a category 1 hurricane has 74 to 95 mph sustained winds. But gusts coming down the canyons between office buildings or into Metro entrances can be mighty.
