WATCH: Mother charged with attempted murder after throwing daughter into bear pit

A mother is facing attempted murder charges after she allegedly threw her 3-year-old daughter into the bear pit at her local zoo.

Shocking footage shows the moment the mother picked up her child and dropped the young girl into the trenched enclosure of Zuzu the bear at a zoo in Uzbekistan.

The little girl fell roughly 16 feet and was met by Zuzu, who walked over and sniffed her, according to the video.

Zookeepers rushed into the enclosure and directed Zuzu away from the girl.

The child suffered a concussion and several cuts but was unharmed by Zuzu, according to a report.

“A young woman threw a little girl down into a brown bear’s enclosure, in front of all the visitors. It was completely unclear what her motive was,” a spokeswoman for the zoo said.

The mother who threw the child over the railing was arrested on charges of attempted murder, and she could face a 15-year prison sentence if convicted, the report noted.

“Both the visitors and the staff of the zoo were trying to stop her but failed,” the spokeswoman said. “We are scared to even think how this would end if the bear were to react at the toddler as its prey.”

“Zuzu got slowly stood up, slowly got down the trench, walked towards the girl, sniffed her and walked back,” she added.
