NY prosecutor faces challenge for House seat on LI

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A three-term prosecutor is facing a county legislator in the Democratic primary for a congressional seat on Long Island.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice is the choice of party leaders. Kevan Abrahams (Kev-ON ABE-rah-HAMS) is the leader of the Democratic caucus in the Nassau legislature.

Abrahams has argued that he has more legislative experience than Rice. She has attracted national attention for her crackdowns on drunken driving and cheating on college entrance exams

In the Republican primary, former Port Authority commissioner Bruce Blakeman is facing Frank Scaturro, a longtime critic of the Nassau GOP establishment.
