Former Oakland Mills principal leads school board funds race

When it comes to amassing money in campaign coffers, Larry Cohen is blowing the other Howard County School Board candidates out of water.

Cohen, 56, is a former school administrator and principal of Oakland Mills middle and Gateway schools.

“I did what I could to raise the money,” he said. “I didn?t have a lot of knowledge about how much I needed to raise.”

Cohen had a kick-off fundraiser and sent mailings to friends and acquaintances.

“It wasn?t like I was overtly out there raising money,” he said. “But I knew we were going to need yard signs and bumper stickers.”
