The NBA has been very good business for the gang at Turner Sports. Here are the numbers just released that will show that following the bouncing ball was a good move for the gang from Atlanta.
Turner Sports announced today multi-platform success for its linear and digital coverage of the 2009-10 NBA regular season. For the third consecutive year TNT’s NBA regular season package has grown in households and total viewers, delivering the most watched NBA regular season on cable since 1995-96. NBA Digital, jointly managed by Turner Sports and the NBA, also reported significant growth with NBA.com streaming a record 1 billion videos worldwide across all platforms since the end of last season, a 65% increase for video views for the site. NBA Mobile, with more than 100 mobile applications available on multiple platforms, delivered more than 1.7 million downloads since the launch of NBA Game Time a year ago.
Additional season highlights include:
- TNT delivered the most watched NBA regular season on cable since 1995-96 in households (1,315,000), total viewers (1,723,000) and P18-34 (544,000)
- 53 games of NBA coverage on TNT delivered a 1.1 US Rating (53 games)
- NBA.com averaged a record of more than 52 million global monthly unique visitors
- Page views to the NBA Mobile WAP site increased by 175% during the 2009-10 season

TNT will tip off its NBA Playoffs coverage this Sunday, April 18 with a tripleheader beginning at 5:30 pm ET. The network will look to build upon back-to-back years of NBA Playoff double-digit ratings growth and the record-breaking viewership it delivered for its coverage of last year’s NBA Playoffs. In 2009, the network averaged a 3.1 U.S. HH rating for 43 games, up 19 percent over the previous year (41 games), with 4,708,000 total viewers, a 24 percent increase (3,795,000). TNT averaged a 2.6 U.S. rating (2,937,000 households) during the 2008 NBA Playoffs coverage, up 14 percent in average total viewers (3,795,000) over the 43 games in 2007.
