‘Give me a break’: Carson fights new media scrutiny

Ben Carson lashed out at CNN on Friday morning for examining the details of his new book more closely than reporters ever investigated President Obama.

“Is that what was done with the current president?” he asked on CNN’s “New Day.” “No, it was not, give me a break.”

Carson was asked if a passage in the book was true, that he once almost stabbed a “close friend” in anger. At other times, Carson has called it a “stabbing incident.” But Carson deflected by asking why the media hasn’t pressed Obama as closely.

“What you all did with President Obama doesn’t even come close to what you’re trying to do in my case,” he said. “You’re just going to keep going back trying to find what he said 12 years ago, this is just garbage. There are too many important issues.”

In his book, Carson tells the story of how he found religion as a young boy after feeling so angry that he almost stabbed a “close friend.” Since the book was released, it came out that Carson changed the name of the “close friend,” and that the close friend was actually a family member. When asked about that decision, Carson once again became defensive, and turned the blame on the media.

“He was a family member, I talked to him, but I think he’d prefer to stay out of the media and I want to respect that,” Carson said. “One of the tactics that’s used by you guys in the media, particularly when a guy is doing very well, is, ‘let’s find a way to get them distracted and get all the people distracted so we can get away from the issues,’ and I’m simply not going to allow this occur.”

Donald Trump got into the action Friday morning by tweeting out his critique of Carson’s admissions. One of those is a recent comment he made that the pyramids in Egypt were not tombs, but were instead used to store grain.
