CIA Director Mike Pompeo to brief House Tuesday

CIA Director Mike Pompeo will brief members of the House Intelligence Committee Tuesday evening, but the purpose is not a reaction to Monday’s press report that said President Trump revealed details about sensitive intelligence matters to Russian officials last week.

An aide to Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, the lead Republican running the Russia investigation in the committee, told the Washington Examiner in an email, “This briefing was scheduled several weeks ago.” That was also confirmed by another congressional staffer close to the committee.

Nonetheless, Democrats may use the meeting to seek answers about Monday’s Washington Post report, which said Trump revealed information to the Russians that should have remained classified. The White House has insisted Trump did nothing wrong, and national security adviser H.R. McMaster told reporters again on Tuesday that the premise of the story was “false.”
