Fauci: I’ve been told everyone who ‘needs’ coronavirus test will be able to get one by June

Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, said he has been informed that everyone who needs a coronavirus test will be able to get one by early June.

“Everyone who needs a test, according to the way we’re approaching the identification, isolation, contact tracing, keeping the country safe and healthy, hopefully, we should see that as we get toward the end of May, the beginning of June,” Fauci told CNN on Tuesday.

“That’s what I’m being told by the people who are responsible for the testing. I take them for their word. If that doesn’t happen, I’m going to go to them and say ‘what happened here, why didn’t it happen, and how can we fix it?’” he added.

President Trump has insisted for weeks that states have had an adequate supply of tests. In early March, he claimed that anyone who needed a test could get one. States have said that’s not the case.

Under growing pressure to expand testing as states begin to reopen their economies, Trump announced Monday the United States would double the number of tests it had been doing.
