CNN is hitting back at incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer after the Trump aide accused one of the network’s correspondents of behaving inappropriately at last week’s press conference.
In a harsh statement on Monday, CNN suggested Spicer is guilty of habitual inaccuracies in his role representing President-elect Trump.
“As we have learned many times, just because Sean Spicer says something doesn’t make it true,” CNN said. “Jim Acosta is a veteran reporter with the utmost integrity and extensive experience in covering both the White House and the president-elect. Being persistent and asking tough questions is his job, and he has our complete support.”
Tensions blew up last week after CNN reported that the Russians may have compromising information on Trump.
At a press conference the next day, Trump shouted down CNN reporter Jim Acosta, who had attempted to ask a question. “You’re fake news,” Trump said.
Afterward, Acosta said Spicer threatened to throw him out of the room for inappropriate behavior. Spicer confirmed that in an interview Sunday on Fox News.
He said that Acosta took “no responsibility for his behavior.”
