HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) — Long Island residents who have a heart attack may have a better chance of survival thanks to a new initiative.
Suffolk County is asking residents with CPR training to download an app called PulsePoint on their smartphones.
When a call goes out for a cardiac arrest, anyone within 400 feet who’s signed up with PulsePoint will get an alert.
CBS New York (http://cbsloc.al/Oi7ZqY ) says 911 will still send an ambulance. But volunteers may be able to help before the ambulance gets there.
Several hundred people already have signed up.
