Virginia inmate sentenced for
threatening Obama, family
A Virginia inmate was sentenced to 10 more years in prison for mailing letters threatening the life of President Obama and his family. Christopher Coates, 29, mailed a letter in March 2009 from the Red Onion State Prison stating that he would kill Obama and his family and the prison warden once he’s released, prosecutors said. Coates’ letter contained numerous racial slurs and was smeared with Coates’ own blood. Coates was due to be released from the prison last Thursday.
Driver shot in carjacking
A driver was shot in an early morning carjacking, Prince George’s County police said. The carjacking was reported about 3:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Suitland Road. The victim was shot and robbed of a black 1993 Lincoln and transported to a hospital. The victim was expected to survive. The car was recovered. No arrests have been made.

10 injured in car vs. Metrobus crash
Ten people were injured when a car collided with a Metrobus in Southeast Washington, fire officials said. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on Elvans Street near Fort Stanton. The driver of the car suffered a minor injury to the face while nine of the people aboard the bus complained of back and neck injuries, none serious, D.C. fire officials said. The passengers were taken to a hospital in a bus ambulance.
Abduction reported in Oakton area
Fairfax County police said they are investigating an abduction of a 12-year-old boy who was released 30 minutes later. Police said the boy was walking in the 2900 block of Palmer Street on Thursday when two males jumped out of a black van, grabbed him and threw him in a van. The suspects drove around and forced the boy out around Interstate 66 and Chain Bridge Road. The boy was not injured.
