Greg Pence has won the GOP primary in the race to fill the congressional seat once occupied by his brother, Vice President Mike Pence.
The race for the 6th District seat currently held by Rep. Luke Messer, R-Ind., was called for Pence shortly after the polls closed. Messer decided not to seek re-election, instead throwing his hat in the ring for a Senate run, which opened the doors for the 4-person Republican primary.
The campaign ended up as a pricey race between two wealthy businessmen, Pence and Jonathan Lamb. However, Lamb was unable to match the more than $1 million raised by Pence through outside groups connected to his brother and other top Republicans.
The vice president congratulated his brother for his victory Tuesday night in a tweet looking forward to November.
“Congratulations to my brother @GregPenceIN on his big primary win tonight in #IN06! He’s making Hoosiers & the Pence family proud. Good luck in November!” he wrote.

Pence is heavily favored in the general election in the solidly Republican district.
