Trump promises to compete in California, New York

Donald Trump promised Wednesday to make a big effort to win California, a state that hasn’t handed its delegates to a Republican presidential candidate since George H.W. Bush won it in 1988.

On the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show, Trump also said he’d compete in New York, which hasn’t voted Republican since Ronald Reagan won it in 1984.

“I’m going to put in a heavy play in California, I’m going to make a play for New York also,” Trump told Kimmel.

Trump also promised to raise $1 billion for GOP House and Senate races. And once he’s in the White House, Trump said he’d forgo the usual $400,000 per year salary.

“I’m going to give it all back,” he said.

The all-but-certain GOP presidential nominee said he is enjoying watching Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders duke it out for the Democratic nomination, and said he identifies with Sanders.

“I like Bernie because the system is rigged, like it was for me,” he said. “It’s unfair to him, for Republicans. I think it’s unfair what is happening to Bernie Sanders.”
